Look, Listen, Watch, Read

Keith Haring

I discovered his work for myself during our San Fran excursion: it was everywhere! There was a sculpture we passed, every store had some dancing man on a tee shirt, there was a chapel dedicated to those lost to AIDS featuring a piece of his on display. While his pieces are chaotic and rather abstract, I can't help but be fascinated and drawn in. Everything is bold and colorful and nothing that had ever been seen before. He produced modern art paired with messages that were beyond modern. He talked about issues that are still controversial today. I want a copy of all of his work and I kind of want my life to look like one of his paintings: full of life and motion.

St. Vincent

I just discovered this amazing artist and I'm literally in love. Her music is hypnotizing, her lyrics are poetic and artistic, and her hair is as quirky as she is. She's one of the only musicians from the 2010's that I can enjoy--a rare find. The first time I heard her music, I immediately envisioned David Byrne and my dad later informed me that they had produced an album together. They mesh perfectly and their collaboration may be my favorite album of hers, but it's hard to compete.

literally too cute

What a queen, amirite?

Ps she makes super cool music videos. Check out my faves herehereherehere

Friends

I know I'm a teensy bit late on this bandwagon, but I've started from the very very beginning and I can't stop. *obsessively sings the theme song*

As I Lay Dying

We read this in English class and I thought that I would hate it, but I fell in love with the depth of everything. There are 15 different narrators illustrating a family's quest to bury their mother. It sounds simple enough, but the plot is so multifaceted...
Disclaimer: if you're looking for a feel-good book, this isn't it. If you're looking for a somewhat challenging read that provokes thoughts and discussion, this is it.

Have an awesome weekend

  1. All of this is perfect! Love Keith Haring and St. Vincent is totally a queen. And...I'm late to the Friends party too haha. That's on my binge-watch list for the summer.
