Trouble in Paradise

So again, i have been lagging, but it's because i'm finally on vacation! I'm at the beach and it's perfect. just the right temperature, the ocean is perfect (no jellyfish, sharks, ect...) but yesterday, when we arrived, it was raining so no ocean for me! Anywho, i have pictures of the view and some of the stylish tidbits in the place we're staying in so enjoy!!

a cute little catch-all in the entry-way

console for the tv. vintage??? yes! i mean, seriously...look at the detail on the glass and on the bottom!!!
amazing fabric on all of the pillows
this mirror is so cute and nautical!!!

Plus, here's my travel outfit. travel day is always stressful so i kept it super simple with a black polo and bright coral shorts. to contrast and add some interest, i went with a lighter blue polka dot belt. comfy and still a bit stylish!

l'accessoires

so like my mixing prints post, i'm doing this one to make up...it's a biggie!

i'm doing an accessories special!!!

These bracelets remind me of a watermelon. The green on top and pink on the bottom. plus the dots are sort of like seeds! very fresh and summery! bangles are an awesome choice because to can wear more than one and they look sort of mod-retro. and who doesn't love the clunking sound they make?
(green bangle from j.crew, vintage pink bangle, vintage green bracelet)

This is a complete change of subject and style, but the next thing i'm obsessed with is a lovely shark watch! I got one for my birthday, and it's just a must-have. It is totally waterproof, has a ton of things on it like a timer, an alarm, and a stopwatch. Plus, it's pretty cute too!
(shark clip watch from amazon.com. Word to the wise, get it on amazon because they are super, major expensive on the actual shark watch website)

okay now we have a really cool one. We are going back to bangles, but this time, they are square. don't believe me? these are some of the coolest bracelets i have EVER seen...check it out!
(both from target)

now, i have a bag for you! i got it for $8 (thanks N!), but i can't tell if it's a genuine louis or not! give me some insight in the comments. either way, i adore the style and color...tres francaise!
polishing cloth inside. Also came with a small wallet (not pictured).

(uptown cheapskate)

Next, i have a cute little silk scarf that is white on pink dots, however, it also has horizontal stripes with alternating silk and mesh. super cute, super fun, super chic!
these are the stripes of silk and mesh
(scarf was a gift)

Lastly, we have a hair accessory. a small chiffon flower clip. looks like not much, but makes a huge feminine impact on an outfit. i also have it in orange.

All of these are just guidelines! find your own versions. you don't have to use these exact pieces. Put your own twist on it and have fun accessorizing!

More Awesome Summer Reads

Believe it or not, summer is almost over!  And with the start of school just around the corner, it's time to read as many great books as we can before we get bogged down with homework and projects.  I've got three amazing books that are perfect to read on the beach or by the pool.  And I can guarantee that you are going to love them!

1) The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer believes that her life can't get any stranger than when she wakes up in a hospital room, with no memory of how she got there.  It most certainly can.  She knows deep in her heart that there has to be more to the mysterious accident that killed her best friend, her boyfriend and his sister, but left her miraculously unharmed.  There definitely is.  When her family moves to Florida to help Mara cope with her post-traumatic stress disorder, she definitely doesn't think she can fall in love.  She's totally and completely wrong.

2) Eve - Anna Carey

Sixteen years after a deadly virus wiped most of Earth's population, the world is a perilous place to be.   Eighteen year-old Eve has never set foot past the heavily guarded perimeter of her School, where she and two hundred other orphaned girls have been guaranteed a future as the teachers and artists of The New America.  But on the night before graduation, Eve learns the true purpose of her beloved School-and of the horrifying fate that awaits each and every one of them.  Fleeing the only home she's ever known, Eve begins a long and perilous journey, searching for a place where she'll be safe.  On the way she meets Arden, her old rival from school, and Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy who lives in the wild.  Having been taught that men are dangerous and not to be trusted, Eve is wary of Caleb at first.  However, slowly he begins to win her trust -and her heart.  But when soldiers begin chasing them, Eve must make a decision: love or life.

3)  Under the Never Sky - Veronica Rossi

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows that her chance of surviving in the barren wasteland known as the Death Shop are slim.  After all, she has been taught all her life that the very air she breathes can kill her.  Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry.  He's wild, a Savage.  And yet, he's her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry sees Aria as sheltered and fragile-everything one should expect from a Dweller.  But only Aria holds the key to his redemption.  Opposites in almost every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other and work together if they want to survive under the never sky.

Happy reading and enjoy the rest of summer!

Hawaiian Punch

 Another busy week!!! Yikes!
so again, i apologize for lagging so much...this outfit was last wednesday's and this shirt is actually a men's shirt!!
i decided to go tropical to try to get myself to forget that the school/work season is almost upon us. everything from the faded shirt with a bold print, to seashell necklaces , to short high-waisted shorts, to a big floppy  hat. everything is beachy and summery! so overall, this outfit is an awesome way to remind yourself to enjoy your summer while it lasts!

Creature Comforts

Hi!
this is tuesday's outfit (i know...i'm majorly lagging...) and it was another outdoors day so i went somewhat comfy again with striped denim shorts and a supersoft tee. to tie up my hair, i used my bandana as a headband and an olive belt to match some of the colors on the bandana. lastly, because my accessories were minimal, i went bold with a large chunky bracelet. So this outfit was another simple, stylish, and majorly comfy one for  a hot and humid tuesday.

mixing prints

Hi everyone!
i thought that because i've been lagging a bit on my outfit posts, i thought i would do a special post!
so something i would like to touch on is  mixing prints.
a lot of people want to try it (it's an awesome trend when done right...), but they shay away because they don't know how to do it and if you don't do it right, it'll look horrible.

DO: mix a basic print with a busy print
DON'T: mix two busy prints

here, we see two busy florals with somewhat similar colors. because they are so big a bold, they clash and would do much better separately.

in this example, i took the second floral and paired it with a green stripe. stripes are prints and they do well on their own, but when mixed, they can be counted as a basic or a neutral. it's also drawing colors from the floral which makes them an even better mix.

DO: mix prints that have similar colors
DON'T: mix randomly

while this pair WOULD match, the colors do not and so the pair is a bust. sorry!

now because these patterns have some colors in common, AND they follow the above rule as well, they work! especially if the busier print is on the bottom (more on that next!!!).

DO: mix prints proportionately
DON'T: just mix willy-nilly

Now, what i mean by this, is that the bolder print (in this case, florals) usually does better on the bottom or in larger amounts. i love wearing a cute floral skirt with a pinstripe top or a floral dress with a striped cardigan or jacket or even floral jeans/pants with a striped or dotted top! but this doesn't mean you can't have a smaller dose of the larger print. when you put it on, really make sure it looks ok before you go out and you'll be fine. either way, i adore mixing prints and i hope this helped! Happy mixing!

Au Naturale

(top: eddie bauer, shorts: old navy, hat: vintage, necklace: american eagle, bracelet: forever 21)

Oh my goodness! how long has it been since i posted??? It's just been soooooo busy this week and i didn't get a chance until now! so i apologize, but i'm here now!  so this outfit is aactually the one i wore on monday and i was outside in the hot sun ALL day. i had fun, but i needed a super comfy outfit to move and breathe in during a super hot day. so my cotton shirt and shorts met those requirements while looking good together. to contrast the orange, i threw in a splash of teal in the bracelet and to match the gold from that, i chose a simple compass pendant necklace. lastly, i put on a ginormous floppy hat to protect myself from the sun, but going for  floppy hat is a stylish alternative to a baseball cap. so overall, it was a comfy and stylish outfit for an all day outdoor day!
