When Life Gives You Lemons

I'm quite late on this Kate Spade collection as they've moved on in their year of travel from italy to monaco, but wow.

*insert emoji with hearts for eyes*
To say that I'm in love is an understatement. Kate Spade has done it again! Apart from every single detail that makes me want to spend the little money I have, her ad campaigns are what truly impress me. Every piece reminds me of the 50's and every photo reminds me of summer. I will definitely be trying to pick up at least one of these pieces ASAP

My eyes have been opened

I feel horrible
I'm not ill, but I feel sluggish, grumpy, and my body is basically screaming that it hates me
Why?
All I've eaten for the past 2 days has been total junk

via

I went to the Maryland Latin Convention this past weekend (call me a geek all you want, it was fun!) and from the food provided to the plethora of snacks shared and consumed, I ate nothing but crap all weekend. This resulted in a decrease in my self esteem and an increase in my stress levels as a result. Before spring break, I had lost weight and since, I've gained back half. I've pinpointed that my lack of care for my diet and my lack of exercise over spring break as the causes for this drastic turn of events. Treating my body right has become increasingly important to me over the past few months and I've been trying to slowly break a lot of my bad habits in order to become a more fit person. I've never been thin, I  may never be thin, but I'd like to treat my body well in order to feel and function better. Do you have any fitness goals or any experiences that made you realize how important health is?

Outfit Post ::Charleston::

What? Another outfit post? I must be on a roll or something...

Tee and Shorts: Eddie Bauer // Necklace: Pink Pineapple // Bracelet and Watch: Local Boutique // Bag: Tommy Hilfiger // Earrings: American Eagle // Fleece: Land's End

In love with the window boxes

had to take a selfie...

Looks like I meant to do this pose (which I didn't) and yet my brother managed to capture it #starphotographer

Disclaimer: this post is closer to being 1/3 outfit documentation and 2/3 travel diary
All of my friends know that South Carolina always has been and always will be like a second home to me. My parents vacationed here long before I was born and continue to do so long after. I have memories of being here from a very young age but we took a break in my tween years where we went to Hawaii/ Disney World/ Disney Land and I sort of forgot about Myrtle Beach. We came back a few years ago during spring break and stayed in a new area (a beach slightly south of Garden City called Litchfield Beach) and fell in love all over again. The beaches, the pretty condos, the Spanish moss, the southern accents and hospitality...I couldn't help but love it all!
Traditionally, my family also makes the 2 hour drive down to Charleston. I have never left the USA before so I don't have much to go off of, but so far, this is my favorite city. There is such a relaxed and hospitable aura about the place...I feel like I should be sitting on a porch in a rocking chair drinking lemonade, admiring the aesthetically appealing houses and gardens...even the alleyways are adorable! Not to mention the rich history that makes it a great place to go for a sightseeing daytrip. I've decided that all I want in life is to make enough money to buy a longchamp, a nice car, and a beautiful historic/southern home. I swoon over the southern architecture and gorgeous gardens associated with Charleston and cannot wait until I have a chance to go back.
What's your favorite city?

Outfit Post ::Plain Jane::

It's been a while since I've done an outfit, hasn't it? My mom agreed to take a picture of my outfit for instagram and then she ended taking another one later and I figured that while the photos were only iPhone quality, I might as well pull them together into a post.

Shirt: Vineyard Vines, Skirt: Francesca's, Shoes: H&M, Earrings (you can't quite see them): Venice, Italy

apologies for blurriness, but this is what I get for losing my camera and taking pictures with my iPhone

#blooperwiththebro
I wore this outfit when we went out to dinner on Tuesday. It had been overcast all day and it poured later that night, but these pictures were taken during the calm before the storm. These pictures were also taken before I spent a day on the beach with no sunscreen and earned a painful sunburn on the back of both legs. It was also before the temperature dropped from close to 80 to close to 60. While there have been some rough patches on this trip, it's been close to one of my favorite vacations to South Carolina yet.
Did anyone else do something special over break?

Edited

So the last time I did one of these, it was "new and improved", and yet I continue to edit. This time, I couldn't decide which shoe I wanted more, and I've been a little lax on my reading...

edited
want 1// want 2// need// watch// listen

Want:
a) I LOVE KATE SPADE'S ITALIAN INSPIRED LEMON THEME THING!!!!!!! It all looks so clean and pure and fresh...I cannot get enough. While I swoon over the '50's inspired dress, these keds would be perfect for summer. I saw them on Instagram paired with white jeans and decided right then and there that they would be mine... after I save up the money to buy them
b) jack rogers. I don't own a pair. It's almost summer. 'nuff said

Need: I'm in South Carolina for break and could use a fabulously southern monogrammed floppy sun hat to keep my paper-white freckled shoulders safe from the sun's rays.

Watch: It's in black and white, it's hilarious, Mary Tyler Moore has adorable style, and it takes place in the late 50's...I seriously couldn't love it more

Read Listen: can someone say "repeat"? I've been listening to Elton John nonstop for some reason...

Have any faves lately?

I've got spring fever all right...

via
May I just say how horrible of an idea it is to make projects and tests happen the week before spring break. I had a chem and a world unit test, trig and algebra quizzes, and a rough draft of an essay all due this week in addition to various band practices and the beginnings of training for leadership auditions (to be a marching band section leader). Between it all, the three of us have been trying to work out a new blog design (as you could probably tell and it's still a work in progress), manage to get some blog posts up, manage social media (we made a twitter account for TPF but we lost close to 40 followers on Instagram in one day), and I ended up coming home to find that I had a fever of 101.2 degrees on Thursday yet still made it to school on Friday #dedication. This week has been pretty awful and the only thing that has kept me sane is the knowledge that I'll soon be on a beach and away from all the stress for an entire week. A few upsides have been my new running routine I've established, my new high-waisted swimsuit, and not failing my chem test. However, my thoughts keep straying back to the blog. I've started to question if my style is even impressive enough to have a blog...as much as I love clothes, should I really be sharing my  style with the world? Are my efforts poured into this blog worth it? Lately I've been dressing simply; a button down and jeans or a skirt is dressing up. My style isn't super original or revolutionary. I pay for my own clothes, my parents refuse to allow me to buy a bag that costs $100, and I've re-evaluated my wishlist at least 20 times. I think my problem is that I can't keep up. I can't do all of my band practices and all of my classes and keep up with media and shopping and trends and style. On my 100 in 1001 list, one of my goals was to start a real journal and as hard as I try, I can never seem to keep a written journal for long. Instead, I think I'll use this blog as more of a journal showing those who choose to read, insight into my life. I may post something here and there about style, but I'd like to use this page to share and expose my opinions and personality to the world. I need to stop caring about how many people read these words and care more about what I get out of them.

What do you think about my conundrum/blogger crisis?

Vacation Shopping List

what's in your beach bag?
via

As of right now, my week off involves making the grueling 10 hour drive down to south carolina. All I care about is if it's warm and if there'll be a beach. Even thought there's an off chance that we'll end up going west and visiting some of the national parks, I can't help but dream about a mid-spring beach holiday.
However, if we do end up oceanside, I have a few pieces that may be necessary to pick up. You know, a new swimsuit or two, some colorful chino shorts, a floppy hat, and a few preppy accessories, the usual. These carefully curated pieces wouldn't just get me through a week in the Grand Strand, but most likely the whole summer. I've been pining after that blouse since forever and totally envision it with a colorful skirt or chino shorts (like those hot pink ones). I'm also excited to try out a high waisted bikini. I'm not quite in the shape I'd like to be in order to rock a bikini so hopefully one with a high waist will be cute yet forgiving (i mean just look at those pineapples!).

Taking a Step Back in Time

Fashion: a sense of style that changes from decade to decade, century to century. Each era of fashion can change by very little or drastically.

When I go shopping, my mom will say "I used to wear patent leather heels, flattering work pants, and my nicely tailored suit with the shoulder pads in the 80's. Now we can barely find you a dress that its long enough." With times changing, so do the styles. The "styles" for our age include way too tight, short, skimpy, and unflattering clothes. Looking back at the beautiful classic styles I find it tragic that stores are advertizing these so called "clothes" as actual fashion. Although I didn't live through it, the days of women wearing classy dresses, men wearing suits and ties not flip-flops and baseball caps, and kids with ironed, clean cut clothes were spectacular in the world of fashion. For this post, I want to take a step back in time and appreciate the true golden days in the world of fashion.

The 30s Era

The American stock market crashed, Dust Bowl hit, Amelia Earhart flew, Swing n' Blues were created, and newly developed film revolutionized film making.

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were popular cinematic dancers from the 1930s. Ginger Rogers, who started her career on the Vaudeville Circut, stared in more than 70 movies and her partner Fred Astaire is regarded by many as the greatest popular music dancer of all time. Together they danced their way into the hearts of America with in films like "Top Hat", "Swing Time", and "The Gay Divorcee". They are important because the type of dance they performed was unique and characteristic of the 1930s.

Shirley Temple, known as America's Sweetheart, started her career in 1934 with the film Stand up and Cheer! when she was six years old. She usually played the typical innocent child roles and never ceased to put a smile on the face of people watching.

Half a Milenium- The 50s

Countries are industrializing, people are immigrtating, and the world keeps changing. Both the Korean war and the Civil Rights Movement sprouted. The 50s were age of poodle skirts, Christian Doir, and jukebox dinners.

Women dressed "smartly' in the Fifties. Good grooming and a tailored look were prized. Acting and looking "every inch the lady" was taught virtually from the cradle and wearing a dress was a given.

Christian Doir launched his "New Look" featuring the Bar Suit (right), which emphasized small waists with very structured overall look, and the flamboyant and  extravagant evening dresses.

A 1960's Salute

In the 60's the people were in control. They exercise their freedom of speech, were active in the Cuban Missile Crisis, fought in Vietnam and for the Civil Rights Movement, and landed on the moon for the first time in history. Flower power ruled with the coming of the Beatles and the "hippie" was born.

1970s Decade

Unprecedented history was made in the 70s. The first American Top 40 countdown aired nationwide, 18 year-old earned the right to vote, Nixon was caught for the Watergate incident and resigned, and Bill Gates founded Miscrosoft. Pop culture was booming around the word and as reflected in the fashions, people were driven and felt free.

Prime Time: The 80's

Although I'm a 90s baby, I'm partial to the 80's. The pop culture and music was off the charts. But the 80's weren't all music: PCs were introduced by IBM, the first women was appointed to the U.S. supreme court, new Coca-Cola hit the market, and the Berlin wall fell. Let's start the vinyls over and see the 80's magic.

Duran Duran was one of the biggest band of the 80's. Their addictive songs and good beats had everyone signing along. A number of male stars were eccentric with the hair and makeup- but hey! It's the 80's!

During all eras there were distinct patterns and parallels, all of which have impacted today's fashion industry. Although times have changed, designers have modernized past trends that are timeless. This post took lots of time between the research and perfect photos but really furthered my understanding of the impact of history on fashion, and how things change even between a few short years. I hope you learned something from reading this just as I did:)

So, what is your favorite fashion era?
